Bucks Shutout Lady Mountaineers in Wilburton

(October 8, 2025) Wilburton, Oklahoma - After a pair of wins last week, the ladies only have 3 regular season games remaining on their 2025 schedule, including today's match at Eastern Oklahoma State College. The Bucks beat the Lady Mountaineers earlier this season at Tapley Park by a score of 3-0.

Eastern started the game with a compact midfield and defense which blunted and frustrated the UARM attacks. The Bucks tried intricate passing combinations to penetrate the Eastern back line, but time and time again, the Bucks ran into a brick wall. UARM changed tactics and went for a wider approach looking for crosses into the box from the wings, and immediately, the team looked more likely to score. On the 33-minute mark, a ball was played from the right wing and found its way to Gavi Urias (Little Rock, AR) at the far post. She laid the ball back to Flavia Marcano (Porter, TX) who shot high into the net from 20 yards out to make it 1-0 in the first half.

The second half continued with the emphasis on wide attacks and two goals came about as a result. The first was close to the hour mark due to Solange Depirou (St. Albans, England) being tripped up by the goalkeeper as she was being rounded. Depirou took the penalty kick and slammed it home in the upper left corner of the goal. Soon after on the 75th minute, Manuela Barbosa de Souza  turned and shot from a central area in the box, which was pushed away to the side by the diving goalkeeper. Abby Phillips (Mena, AR) followed up, but her shot was deflected across the goal providing Summer Stout (San Antonio, TX) with an easy tap in at the far post. The substitutes came into the game, and even though Eastern came close to scoring themselves, the game clock winded down for the 3-0 win.

Coach Kevin Sherry is continuing to learn and focus on his team needing to contiue to get better in certain areas as the season draws closer to the Region 2 Tournament. "It wasn't our best performance, but we got over the line. The game exposed some weaknesses which need to be worked on, but overall, we got the win, and we must be happy with that. "

The Bucks will now head to #3 Seminole State College on Sunday, October 12th. The Bucks and Trojans drew 2-2 earlier this season at Tapley Park.
