(October 5, 2025) Mena, Arkansas - After a road win on Wednesday in Miami, OK, the ladies returned home for a match against Connors State College. This was the ladies fifth straight Sunday to play at Tapley Park with only one home game remaining after Sunday later this month against Murray State.
The UARM women had to make sure they were laser focused on the process of performing well on Sunday afternoon and not let their minds start to drift with thoughts of postseason seeding. The mantra has always been to focus on the present and let the future take care of itself. The same starting XI which started at NEO was put out again by the Bucks to help bring about consistency of performance and forge the understanding the players have with each other in their various roles on the field.
UARM dominated the first half, but a combination of sloppy passing and a lack of spatial awareness kept Connors State in the game for the first 30 minutes. It was then that the Bucks scored. Maeliss Pottez (Wavrans-sur-l'Aa, France) place a perfect pass between the defenders for Maya Lane (Southend-on-Sea, England) to run on to, but as she was taking the ball wide of the goalkeeper, she was tripped up. As it was in the penalty area, a penalty kick was awarded, and Lane picked herself up to place the kick low and into the corner of the net to give the ladies a 1-0 lead at the half.
The second half was a carbon copy of the first with UARM dominating possession and creating good opportunities to score, but the ladies had some inaccurate shooting that kept the game close at 1-0. Eventually, another goal arrived after Maeliss Pottez lifted the ball over the back line, and Solange Depirou (St. Albans, England) used her head to knock the bouncing ball forward for herself to then smash a low shot past the diving keeper into the corner of the net.
The rest of the game continued as before as all the substitutes entered the game, but UARM just lacked the composure and killer instinct in front of goal to trouble the score keeper. The ladies picked up their 10th win of the season and improved to 7-0-1 in region play.
Coach Kevin Sherry's focus is from game to game with three very important games left in the regular season. "Job done. Now, move onto Eastern Oklahoma State College and keep this positive momentum going."
The Bucks will now play their South Division opponents again beginning on Wednesday, October 8th, in Wilburton, Oklahoma.
