(October 2, 2025) Miami, Oklahoma - After receiving votes in the lateet NJCAA DI Women's Soccer Rankings, the Bucks took their 8-0-1 record to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Wednesday evening for a region match against the Lady Norse.
The Bucks started quickly and had early looks at the NEO goal, but the chances just missed the post by inches, one via Maya Lane's (Southend-on-Sea, England) left foot and one from Solange Depirou's (St. Albans, England) head. The ladies dominated the ball and had most of the possession, but the Lady Norse dominated physically and were able to cause turnovers from the UARM players with strong ,aggressive defending. NEO looked to break early in transition, and the Bucks defense had to be on their toes to keep the opposition at bay. Ramzee Matejka (Jacksonville, TX) had to pull off a good save high to her left to keep the game scoreless until Depirou found the net with a header, getting on the end of a wide free kick from Flavia Marcano (Porter, TX).
Halftime was an opportunity to refocus, and the second half had a much more controlled look to it. UARM was able to create many passing combinations in midfield to help set up chances for the strikers to feed off, and a second goal was the result. Summer Stout (San Antonio, TX) cut inside from the right and hit a perfect left footed pass into the feet of Maya Lane cutting inside from the opposite wing. Lane cut across the defender and ripped a shot into the net before the recovering defenders could get a foot in to make it 2-0.
Five minutes later, the game was 3-0 after Solange Depirou received a penetrating pass from Maeliss Pottezz (Wavrans-sur-l'Aa, France) in the midfield, cut around her defender, and smashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net. UARM kept creating shots at goal, but the scoreboard was left at 3-0 for the remainder of the game. UARM cleared the bench to get many of the players who travelled some valuable minutes, and they worked hard together to see the game through to it's conclusion.
Coach Kevin Sherry was please with his team's change of pace in the second half. "We started a little hesitant, and as a result, we struggled against a very physical NEO team. Once we increased our overall speed of play to counter the opponents aggression, we began to see a lot of good things. The goals were very well taken, and this is something we can take into the next game knowing that we can score goals if our speed of play is quicker. Summer Stout was a great addition off the bench today with her energy, and Maeliss Pottez had her best game in midfield controlling the game. We are obviously very happy, but we know there are still big challenges ahead for them."
The Bucks are now 9-0-1 (6-0-1) on the season with four games remaining. The ladies play again on Sunday, October 5th, at home against Connors State College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm at Tapley Park.
