Bucks Shutout UA Cossatot

Bucks Shutout UA Cossatot

(August 23, 2025) Mena, Arkansas - Coming off a 2-1 win over Coffeyville on Thursday, the ladies hit the field again this morning at Tapley Park to take on UA Cossatot.

UARM got off to a quick start dominating possession with short, sharp passing combinations that created attacking options which eventually led to having one of them being converted. Flavia Marcano (Porter, TX) received the ball in midfield and quickly found Maya Lane (Southend-on-Sea, England) on the right wing. She cut inside the back line with a strong pass, which slipped underneath the recoving defenders foot. Lane collected the ball and ran 20 yards with it and settled herself to then smash the ball home on the angle to give the Bucks the 1-0 lead. Lane has scored a pair of goals in as many games this season. Cossatot was restricted to long balls from their back line, looking to drop the ball in behind, but the Bucks defense stood firm. Goalkeeper Ramzee Matejka (Jacksonville, AR) was always ready to sweep up behind.

The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first half, except that the Bucks had many more chances to score than compared to the first half. Several of the ladies had very easy scorable opportunities but failed to convert. Despite the players visibily wilting in the heat, the team saw it through to the end to get the win to start 2-0 in the young season.

Coach Kevin Sherry was happy for his team, but he seen several things the Bucks need to work on. "This is another big win against a similarly skilled team to the one we faced two days ago against Coffeyville.  We had to work hard to keep our defensive shape, because if we hadn't done so, Cossatot had the players who could hurt us. Finishing our scoring chances will be a focus this week in practice which will help take some of the pressure off the defensive players."

The ladies will have a break in their schedule before returning to action at home on September 3rd against region foe, Eastern Oklahoma State College.
