(August 18, 2022) Coffeyville, Kansas – To start the fourth season of Bucks Soccer, the women travelled to Coffeyville Community College to kickoff their regular season against the Red Ravens. The regular season brings the official start to the Casey Weil era at UA Rich Mountain. Coach Weil finished the season last year, taking the ladies to the Region II Semi-Finals and winning their first post-season game in school history. This season also brings a lot of new faces to the team along with a group of returners that look to build off of the end of last season.
The Bucks kicked off the match and both teams when back and forth. The Bucks made a couple of runs before the mid-half water break but couldn't get a shot off. The Red Ravens controlled the match for much of the time after the mid-half water break, before the Bucks once again flipped the field. The ladies were unable to possess the ball for any length of time. With less than 2 minutes in the half, the Red Ravens countered and looked sure to score, but sophomore goalkeeper Melanie Glossup (Allen, TX) made 2 great saves to keep the match at 0-0 heading into halftime.
To start the second half, the Bucks countered the kickoff with a pair of shots that were off target before Coffeyville countered and scored in the 48th minute to make it 1-0. The Bucks would take the next kickoff and put their first ball on goal and continued to play hard until the water break. After the break, Coffeyville scored their second goal of the match from outside the 18 yard box to make it 2-0 in the 68th minute. Both possessed and had opportunities in the last 22 minutes, but Coffeyville would win 2-0.
In the match, Melanie Glossup recorded 5 saves in the match, and the Bucks recorded 3 shots in the match with 2 being on goal by Abbie Sunners (Liverpool, England) and Kenya Martinez (De Queen, AR). The Bucks got a pair of corners in the match.
The ladies return to action next Thursday at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm.
