Caleb Summerfield: Passionate and Driven
If you met Caleb Summerfield in the classroom, eating lunch, or with the team, he would appear to be witty, funny, and a very happy, go lucky person. But, the Plymouth, England native is none of those on the pitch. The right-back defender turns into a fiery competitor that has little room for error. Caleb arrived in Mena, AR a week or so after preseason practices were done due to the some paperwork issues. Not even 24 hours after arriving, he played in all 90 minutes of an intersquad scrimmage Coach Byrd and Coach Moss conducted one afternoon to do player evaluations. He quickly solidified his role on the starting 11. Coach Byrd found Caleb while recruiting at the Dallas International Cup this past spring along with a few of this teammates.
Off the field, Caleb is often telling jokes, making witty comments, or singing on road trips, much to everybody's dismay. He is a good student in the classroom. His on the field passion does come out at times, but you'll never have to guess what Summerfield is thinking. "He is a straight shooter and calls it like he sees it. We have to tame Caleb down at times. He sees the field so well, but when he makes an off ball run, he sometimes gets frustrated if the ball doesn't come his way. We have to remind him to let plays develop and that no run goes unnoticed," stated the first-year Rich Mountain coach. Caleb and Rich Mountain have both benefited since his arrival.
